Relay for Life Teams - June 2010

The final totals are in!! It's great news all the way 'round for our two teams.

The Bands of Bayside raised just a hair over $2200 for the American Cancer Society!!! That's nearly a 400% improvement over our total from 2009. We also doubled the number of team members this year. Woooohoooo! Way to go guys!! Thanks to everyone involved but especially our Team Captains, Kuana J. & Jeremy E. You've all made me, and Bayside, very proud!! If you've never been involved with a Relay event, it really is one of those things you just have to experience in life to truly appreciate.

Jeremy has volunteered to be a Captain once again for our efforts in 2011. Please talk to him asap to join a team or to volunteer for the other captain's position.

WAY TO GO MARCHING MARLINS!!!!!!!

Paperwork & Update

Lots of paperwork went home today to be shared with parental units. Please check in with the youngun's to see what they should have shared with you. :)
1)Student Information Sheet - return before Thursday, 8/12/10.
2)Health Form - MUST be NOTARIZED before returning, return before Thursday, 8/19/10.
3)4 month Calendar - for the student binder...if you would like another copy, there are plenty.
4)Marching Event Calendar - same deal as #3. :)

Students were asked to purchase earplugs (soft neoprene foam, inexpensive) as we will be holding music rehearsals in the Cafeteria due to construction taking place in the Band/Chorus rooms and Auditorium. The decibel level in the room is excessive as the floors are terrazzo/concrete and there are virtually no surfaces to dampen sound. We will rehearse outdoors as weather permits. The earplugs are just for precaution. Battery Percussionists are REQUIRED to wear these at all times regardless of being in or outdoors.

As the temps will be going up as the week progresses, "watering" the kids is a priority. Please make sure that you have a water bottle/cooler/etc to keep water outdoors. Gatorade is only permitted after the end of the rehearsal day. Slurpees are always a refreshing way to end the day. First hand experience speaking here. ;)

And hopefully....you have found the sparkling new Facebook page for the band. Check it out. See you tomorrow!
